How would you describe your thinking?

Last week I participated in a survey called Emergenics that identified a person's preference regarding their thinking and behavior. It was very interesting and I can say I was not surprised by the results. There are four areas that make up thinking: Conceptual, Analytical, Social, and Structural. I scored 46% Conceptual, 29% Analytical, 23% Social, and 2% Structural. As you can see I spend most of my thing time in conceptual mode, which means I don't do details or rules very well. No surprise there :).

Conceptual thinking:

  • Imaginative
  • Intuitive about ideas
  • Visionary
  • Enjoys the unusual
  • Learns by experimenting
Analytical thinking:
  • Clear thinker
  • Logical problem solver
  • Data driven
  • Rational
  • Learns by mental analysis
Social thinking:
  • Relational
  • Intuitive about people
  • Socially aware
  • Empathic
  • Learns from others
Structural thinking:
  • Practical thinker
  • Likes guidelines
  • Cautious about new ideas
  • Predictable
  • Learns by doing
The next part of the survey looked at how I behave. I scored a 94 for Expressiveness, 73 for Assertiveness, and 63 for flexibility. A lot of people think that because of my expressiveness and assertiveness that I am not flexible. This is not true. I voice my opinion very strongly; however, if someone appeals to my analytical thinking side, I will more than likely become collaborative and totally change my mind about something.

This was an enlightening experience for me and it has helped me to communicate better with Brooke, as she also took the survey. I have found this information very useful and if you're interested in finding out how you think, let me know and I'll hook you up with the person who helped me with mine.
